Message from Todd Moore

Please take note in this month’s newsletter the article about wire fraud in home buying transactions. Also, watch the clip about true stories of losses people are incurring as criminals are intercepting wiring instructions. Help us spread the word to your neighbors and friends; it’s our best defense.

In The Spotlight has Kim’s story about running her business. She is a great operator and just a really kind person.  When it came time to step into the lead role in her organization, Kim really stepped up. She got her hands dirty, worked long hours and did whatever it took to not only learn the business, but to innovate. The Valley Mills location began in 1964, and it’s a much different business and industry today. She has adapted very well. Way to go, Kim!  We’re proud of you and your staff.

New restaurants opening here in River City are pretty frequent occurrences. The Union Hall and Route 77 concepts highlighted this month are totally new concepts have never been done here. Please check them out and give them a try when they open.  The BEST way to grow our business, is to do business, with people who do business with us!  Legacy advice because it’s so true and always relevant.

Lastly, it’s a great time of year to get educated about the private student loan program we can offer through our affiliate relationship.  We often hear people say they are straining to pay for college for their children because they do not qualify for student loans.  This program is not needs based; it’s for everyone.  And, will really soften the blow financially.  Please check out their repayment terms and options.

Many of you are actively engaged with the bank, either by being a customer in many different ways or referring business to us, or both.  If we had full engagement of our broad shareholder group we would be a much larger and more valuable institution. Please ask yourself, if you’re not a customer or referring business, why not? Then, call me and let’s talk about what we can do to help you be a part of your bank.  No matter where you live or work, we’re here for you! Give us a try. We will do everything we can to make it a great experience for you, and hopefully one of the best decisions you make in 2019.

If you haven’t already, please go to our Alliance Bank Central Texas Facebook page. Like it, Share it, and repeat!

Kimberly Nielsen
Genie Car Wash and Fast Lube
Services: Complete car care center including basic car wash, car wash packages, lube center and detail shop

Locally owned and operated since 1964, Genie Car Wash and Fast Lube is dedicated to keeping customer’s cars clean and serviced. Genie Car Wash understands how quality convenience are key to customer satisfaction. With locations in Waco and Hewitt, Genie offers full service car washes, oil changes and a variety of detail services, as well as express car washes for those on the go.

Kimberly and her team pursue excellent customer care each day, making Genie Car Wash a destination hot spot for car care.

Q: Has Waco always been home?  I am originally from the Dallas/Ft. Worth area and came to Waco to attend Baylor University. After graduation, I married and Waco became home.

Q: What is your role at Genie Car Wash? I operate two locations, one on Valley Mills and one on Hewitt Drive.

Q: What makes Genie Car Wash unique?  We offer our customers a variety of service options, including express service, individual and full detail options, oil change (with a free full service wash) as well as multiple levels of full service washes. Providing options helps us differentiate from other businesses and stay competitive. The staff and associates also make Genie Car Wash unique. Many have worked for the company for many years. Their experience, attitude, hard work and dedication help contribute to the success of our business. We take pride in our customer service, continually training our employees, and always striving to meet and exceed customers’ expectations.

Q: What industry changes have you seen over the years? This industry has changed immensely since Genie Car Wash’s inception 55 years ago. Complications of labor have driven the car wash industry away from full-service to primarily express type operations using tunnels, where the customer stays in the car through the wash process and vacuums their own vehicles. We believe there is great value in the personal service of having staff vacuum, dry, and wipe down windows and exterior, as well  as the interior door jams of a vehicle, resulting in quality, full service care.

Q: What keeps you energized about going to work each day? I have a business that demands daily attention. Each day brings new challenges and with challenge comes opportunity! I enjoy problem solving and looking for creative ways to meet the needs of my team and our customers.

Q: And finally, what do you enjoy in your spare time? I have three children, two in college and one finishing high school. My work, children and two dogs and cat keep me quite busy!

Wire Fraud Devastates Homebuyers

Imagine loosing a six figure sum and the home of your dreams with just a click of a button. Scammers are increasingly targeting homebuyers, tricking them into wiring their downpayment funds to unauthorized accounts, never to be seen again. It can happen to anyone, so awareness and due diligence are key. To promote awareness, we continue to share a recent story of a couple who lost all of the equity they were putting in their home purchase due to wire fraud. It's devastating, but it can be avoided. Verifying the transfer request by phone and checking who and where the request came from are important steps to take to combat fraud.

Farm Bureau Branch

It was great to see Vernie Glasson in our Texas Farm Bureau branch! Vernie retired in 2016 as the Executive Director for TFB, having served as  Chief Executive Officer for 27 years. He left a legacy of strong leadership, humility, grace and style. What is retirement like for Mr. Glasson? “It’s like six Saturdays followed by a Sunday!” he said with a smile.  Well done, Mr. Glasson.  Well done.

Kids Club Savings

These two super savers joined the Alliance Bank Kids Club. With just a $10 deposit, children can open a savings account and learn about healthy money habits. Plus, it's fun! With each deposit, children earn a token redeemable for a prize. Save five tokens and earn a bigger prize!
